Volunteering at Hardcore Harry’s King of the Hill 2024
Share
At Go Nutrition, we're all about supporting athletes and fitness communities throughout Australia.
One community we particularly love is Hardcore Harry's, which we feel is one of Australia's leading platforms for encouraging athletes and fitness enthusiasts to push beyond their limits.
We have been following Hardcore Harrys for a while now, and with various challenges held throughout the country, inspiring athletes and huge amounts of grit and determination involved in each challenge, we decided to jump on board and volunteer at their latest event, Hardcore Harry's King of the Hill 2024
What is Hardcore Harry's King of the Hill 2024?
Hardcore Harry's King of the Hill was hosted in Pyalong, just 20 minutes outside the larger township of Kilmore in Victoria, on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024.
As strong supporters of the Hybrid lifestyle, we could NOT miss out on this epic backyard ultramarathon. We had to get involved in any way we could, so we decided to help fuel the athletes by providing our watermelon, lemon, and lime electrolytes, which people loved—stay tuned. Watermelon Electrolytes are available now, and lemon-lime is due to be released shortly!
But what was the catch to this backyard ultramarathon exactly?
100 Athletes had to complete the 3.2km (411m of elevation) circuit every hour until only one was left standing to win the $10,000 cash prize.
There was no second prize, just pure and simple, and the last person to remain won.
And it was NUTS.
Ignoring multiple cash offers to withdraw, many athletes pushed through and dialled down to ascend the mighty hill.
After 76 laps and 78 hours of nonstop walking, two winners were chosen: Pyry Liukkonen and Piotr Babis, who timed out together and took $5000 each.
Congratulations to them both!
Why should you do a Backyard Ultramarathon in Australia?
Ultra marathons are very different from standard road marathons and enable you to push your limits differently. The terrain changes throughout the course, the fueling is different, and the biggest challenge is the elevation gain ( if you know, you know).
There are a number of backyard ultra marathons in various locations around Australia, and if you really want to test yourself, they're one of the best events to get involved in. Not only do they challenge you physically, but they also challenge you mentally, and because everyone is in the same boat, it's a great way to meet like-minded individuals and often make lifelong friends.
If you can't participate or you just want to suss out an Ultramarathon, we recommend volunteering!
At Hardcore Harry's King of the Hill 2024, we loved helping solve issues, ensuring both the course and the athletes were safe and got to witness the absolute legendary effort it takes to bring an event like this to life.
Volunteers are essential for epic races like this, in short, they simply wouldn't exist without them! Get involved, and you'll build awesome connections and meet great people. Although you'll leave exhausted, you won't regret a second of it.
Wrapping up Hardcore Harry's King of the Hill 2024
At Go Nutrition, we loved Hardcore Harry's King on the Hill 2024 so much that now we aim to volunteer at one race for every race we compete in. Some of our highlights included connecting with other athletes, sharing insights on training methods and race strategies, seeing people in the community try our products and provide positive feedback, and feeling the amazing community spirit that events like this provide.
Overall, the event was awesome, and we're already super excited to see how big and great it will be in 2025.
